Abstract
Colony morphologies of slowly growing pathogenic mycobacteria other than tubercle bacilli(MOTT), ie., M. kansasii; M. simiae, M. scrofulaceum, M. szulgai, M. gordonae, M. f lavescens, M. avium, M intracellulare and M. xenopi, on 71110 agarbase medium supplemented with soluble extracts of fruits of Gardenia jasminoides (referred to as 71410Chiza agar) were described.
The optimal concentrations of the Chiza extracts improved the growth but also developed speciescharacteristic colony morpholo gies of the various MOTT. On 71110-Chiza agar(OD = 0.02) the colony morphologies of various MOTT were varied with species.
